The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center is recruiting for a full-time psychiatrist for the Mental Health Product Line. The successful candidate mustbe board certified / board eligible (current eligibility within two years) in psychiatry.  Interest and experience in teaching and research are desirable. The incumbent will focus on the assessement / evaluation and medication management of veterans who suffer from a variety of mental health conditions, including, but not limited to post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and other related conditions; write prescriptions for medications, including controlled medications which require a DEA number; works with families of patients receiving psychiatric care; provide and document education and counseling of patients and patients' families in preventive care, medication treatments, and the use of prescribed medications; perform history and physical examinations; order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests; appropriately and timely completemedical records, including progress notes, consults, history and physicals, and discharge summaries; performs psychological counseling, crisis intervention, and group therapy within the scope of the clinician's training.The incumbent should be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.  The G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Mental Health Service is an integral part of the South Central VA Health Care Network,  Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) with basic, clinical and health services project on schizophrenia, mood disorders, PTSD, substance abuse and dementia.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:



Education:Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.



First-Year Residency (Internship): Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.



Licensure and Registration: Must have current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine.



English Language Proficiency: Physician appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U. S. C. 7402(d) and 7405 (f).



Drug Testing and Physical: All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment is a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.A pre-employment physical examination shall be made to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates for appointment in the VA.Physical examination must be satisfactorily completed.
