Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 427-bed tertiary care facility closely affiliated with the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System/Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine. We are a teaching hospital, with modern technology that supports our education and research mission. Comprehensive healthcare is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care. Expertise is available in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, hematology/oncology, dialysis, cardiology, endocrinology (Center of Excellence), dentistry, largest spinal cord injury center in the VA system, and hospice.The medical center has three (3) community-based outpatient clinics located in Charlottesville, Emporia and Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia is actively seeking a full-time Optometrist (Low Vision Optometrist).The incumbent will provide evaluations and follow up to patients with visual disorders and/or low vision in the Polytrauma Unit, the VISOR (Visual Impairment Services Outpatient Rehabilitation) program and the Eye Clinic.These include patients with brain trauma, multiple neurological deficits and patients with various ocular disorders.The incumbent will participate and collaborate in the interdisciplinary plan of care for these patients.The incumbent will also perform routine eye examinations on new and follow-up patients, consult triage and medical refills in the Eye Clinic.In addition, the incumbent will provide staff/resident education.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Must be a U.S. citizen.



Must possess a degree of doctor of optometry resulting from a course of education in optometry.The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools or colleges approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.


Current, full and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the U.S. or District of Columbia.


Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by U.S.C. 7402(d)and 7405(f).


After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation.
