The incumbent will have the responsibility for providing consulting and advisory professional engineering service to management and the medical staff at this medical center.The incumbent's responsibilities cover a wide scope of engineering activities ranging from building construction and maintenance through intricate and complex problems with high voltage electrical systems, steam production, air-conditioning, electrically energized machines, pneumatic and electronic controls, and specialized mechanical, hydraulic and electronic equipment common to a modern medical center.Prepares medical center construction requests for submission to Central Office.In charge of construction projects from initial conception to completion and inspect contracts for compliance with the contract documents.Provides engineering input for the maintenance and repair of all the medical center utility systems.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Candidates must be citizens of the United Sates.BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements appropriate to professional engineering, OR, an appropriate combination of directly related degree education and experience that is appropriate to this position (copy of college transcripts must be turned in at the same time as application).In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level to qualify for the GS-11 level.Specialized experience is desired in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, as projects and maintenance of utilities include expertise in these areas.Time-in-grade requirements must be met.

You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO BE ADDRESSED:



1.Knowledge in electrical, mechanical, civil, industrial, security and safety engineering fields.


2.Knowledge of material stresses when utilizing concrete, structural steel, wood and aluminum in design or construction of minor improvements and additions.


3.Knowledge in hydraulics, thermodynamics, mechanics, and strength of materials when resolving maintenance and repair problems in the operation of steam plants, air-conditioning, ventilation, sterilizing equipment, conveyors, along with air, vacuum, gas, oxygen, water and sewerage stystems.


4.Knowledge of electrical distribution systems including connected electrical loads for motors, lights, and widely diversified hospital equipment.


5.Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate difficult and unusual problems dealing with the various phases of construction projects.(Provide examples)


6.Ability to conduct special studies, write reports, and recommend courses of action or actions affecting budget, planning maintenance and repair of facilities, systems and equipment, labor utilization, and work methods.(Describe your experiences)
