DIRECT HIRE VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

These positions are being filled through Office of Personnel Management's delegated Direct Hire Authority (DHA).  The Direct Hire Authority has been authorized by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and Part 337, Subpart B, Title 5 of the Code of Federal Regulations (5 CFR).  If filled utilizing DHA, the following is applicable: all applicants who meet the basic qualification requirements will be forwarded to the Selecting Official for consideration.  The Rule of Three and Veteran's preference and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do not apply to the Direct Hire process.  Indian Preference does apply.

This notice is issued under the direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which the Department of Health and Human Services has a severe shortage of candidates or a critical hiring need.  This position is subject to provisions of the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan Program (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistant Program (CTAP).

Brief Description of Duties: Performs the processing and distribution of pharmaceutical products to ambulatory patients and inpatients; clinics, inpatient wards and field health activities per requisitions.Establishes drug use policy and monitors the handling and use of pharmaceutical products for compliance with regulations.Provides consultation, drug information and in-service education; counsels patients on home use, precautions and storage of pharmaceutical products; provides assessment and treatment to patients with minor problems and maintenance care to patients with chronic diseases on long term drug therapy according to the standards of care as outlined in medical staff approved protocols.

Duty Locations:  Positions will be filled Southwest Region Wide.  You are encouraged to identify the locations you want to be considered for.  Eligible locations include: Fort Yuma, Parker, Peach Springs, Phoenix, Polacca, San Carlos, San Simon, San Xavier, Sells, Whiteriver, AZ; Elko, Schurz, NV; Roosevelt, UT; Regional Treatment Center: Sells, AZ or Wadsworth, NV.

Salary:

GS-09, $60,953 - $73,418 per annum

GS-11, $67,047 - $82,131 per annum

GS-12, $76,346 - $94,427 per annum

Appointment Types(s): Positions to be filled as permanent, term (maximum 4 years), or temporary appointments.  Positions to be filled as vacancies occur.

Work Schedule(s):  Multiple schedules may be filled, you are encouraged to identify the schedules you are willing to accept.  Eligible schedules include: full-time, part-time, rotational, or intermittent schedule.

Relocation Expenses:  Travel may be paid in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.

Housing:  Government quarters or tribal housing is available at certain locations, depending on occupancy; otherwise private housing only.

Promotion Potential:  Promotion potential will vary by position. 

If the position is filled at a lower grade, an incumbent may be promoted to the full performance grade level once all legal and regulatory requirements are met; however, such promotion is neither automatic nor guaranteed.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Basic Requirements - All pharmacist applicants must both of the following requirements:

  • Education: Four-year bachelor's degree in pharmacy recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.

  • Licensure: All applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Additional Requirements for Grades GS-9 and Above:

For GS-9: Successful completion of a 5-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school, or 1 year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-7.

For GS-11: Successful completion of a 6-year course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree; 1 year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-9; or, for research positions, completion of all of the requirements for a master's or equivalent degree in a related scientific field.

For GS-12: One year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-11; or, for research positions, completion of all the requirements for a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related scientific field.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Please Note: Part-time employees pay a proportionately higher premium for benefits than full-time employees.  Additionally, earned annual and sick leave balances will be pro-rated based upon the number of hours worked.

Intermittent employees are not eligible for either health or life insurance coverage unless they complete the full 2087 hour work year, after which they may enroll but pay the full premium.  An intermittent employee does not accrue sick or annual leave.
