ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:

NUMBER OF VACANCIES AND APPOINTMENT TYPES: The Northern Plains Region Human Resources Office fills vacant positions for the Billings Area Indian Health Service, an Agency within the Department of Health & Human Services and is accepting applications at the multiple grade levels for recruitment of the greatest number of candidates who will be considered for all vacancies for a 6-month period. Appointments may be in the Excepted Service under the Indian Preference hiring authority. This announcement may be used to fill jobs with multiple appointment terms: permanent, temporary, or term. Temporary/Term/Time limited appointments made from this announcement may be extended without further competition, up to the time frames allowed by law or regulation or made permanent without further competition; but extension is not guaranteed. Some temporary/term/time limited appointments are eligible for benefits. Positions may be filled at ANY of the grade levels indicated in this announcement, with or without promotion potential as vacancies occur. ·Gives total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services to patient.Assumes responsibility for the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients within their physician specialty area.
·Conducts clinics making observations appropriate to the patient’s underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms.
·Refers patients to appropriate medical or other facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures.
·Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data to provide comprehensive medical care.
·Works closely with allied health professionals in the provision of broad health program services.Interviews and examines patients.Instructs and counsels patients.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

***BASIC REQUIREMENTS:***
DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine; OR, Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accredited body in the year of the applicant's graduation. A Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided educational and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a Fifth Pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre medical education in the United States and graduate in a foreign country).
EDUCATION:
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program. GRADUATE TRAINING: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine; OR, Doctor of Osteopathy Degree, a candidate MUST have had at least one (1) year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e. a 1 year internship or the first year of residency program in an institution accredited for such training). For purpose of this standard graduate training programs include only those internships residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accredited bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.- An internship program involves broadly based clinical practices in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g. internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or ADA.
- A fellowship program involves advance training beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or other institution accredited in the U.S. for such training.
LICENSURE: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. - Appointments Pending Meeting Licensure Requirement: Individual circumstances may warrant appointments pending meeting the licensure requirement (e.g., when a candidate has a temporary license to practice until the next regular session of the licensing board). GENERAL PRACTICE POSITIONS:
GS-13 -- 3 years of graduate training or equivalent experience and training.
- GS-14 -- In addition to the requirements for GS-13, 1 year of appropriate experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
- GS-15 -- In addition to the requirements for GS-14, 1 year of appropriate experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
SPECIALIST POSITIONS:
- For GS-13 -- 3 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
- For GS-14 -- 4 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
- For GS-15 -- 5 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
Positive Education Requirements: This position has specific educational requirements. To qualify for this position, you MUST possess the required education as noted under Qualifications.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: Federal status applicants must have completed at least 52 weeks of service in a position no more than one grade lower than the position to be filled.
