JOB SUMMARY:The Jack C. Montgomery VAMC is a primary medical and surgical facility located in Muskogee, OK, that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. Outpatient care is also provided at three community based outpatient clinics in Hartshorne, Tulsa and Vinita, OK. Please specify which location(S) You are interested in: Hartshorne Okla., Muskogee Okla. The psychologist will work in Geriatrics & Extended Care as the primary staff Psychologist with primary assignment to VA Home Bases Primary Care (HBPC). The incumbent will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide care to veterans enrolled in the VA Health care System. The HBPC psychologist function as the primary mental health provider of the HBPC team, providing mental health prevention, assessment, treatment, management, and professional consultation services. The individual may also provide coverage in other geriatrics and extended care setting.
The psychologist is responsible for completing evaluations and comprehensive consultations on new clinic referrals, and follow-up and management of all psychiatric disorders. They will have autonomous responsibility for patients with a wide range of complex psychosocial concerns and must be well versed in a variety of treatment modalities. The psychologist provides professional assessment, coordination, and planning of all mental health disorders and ensures care is timely, appropriate, of high quality and cost effective.

The VA Home-Base Primary Care (HBPC) program provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary primary care services in the homes of veterans with complex and chronic, disabling disease. In addition to primary care interventions, HBPC provides palliative care rehabilitation, disease management and care coordination services. HBPC target veterans in advanced stages of chronic disease, particularly those at high risk of recurrent hospitalization or nursing home placement
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: The basic requirements for employment as a VHA psychologist are prescribed by: Public Law 96-151 codified in Title 38, U.S.C. § 7402. To qualify for appointment, all applicants for the position of psychologist in VHA must meet the following:
Physical Standards/Requirements: See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
English Language Proficiency: Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity that is not proficient in written and spoken English.
Education: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
AND
Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internship prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
Licensure: Current full and unrestricted license to practice in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
