This duty location is Aurora, CO.

Board Eligible/Board Certified Internal Medicine or Family Practice physician. The Physician is responsible for managing the full spectrum of primary care responsibilities including admission, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, including consultation of patients presenting with internal medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries. To manage primary care patients in the ECHCS, the following will be necessary: ordering appropriate lab work, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, requesting consultations to specialty services, providing appropriate follow-up care, and triage of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment.

The physician will work in a team setting with other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of the patients. Computer skills are essential as the VA ECHCS is fully computerized for note documentation, entering orders, and requesting consults.

Functions as a Primary Care Provider approximately 60%-100% of the time and a Resident/Medical Student Teaching: 0%-40% of the time.    



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

CITIZENSHIP:Must be a citizen of the United States.

LICENSURE AND REGISTRATION:Physician applicants must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for the continuing active, current licensure.

RESIDENCY:Completed a residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.Approved residencies are those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed or other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:Incumbent must pass pre-employment physical examination.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).


EDUCATION:Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Approved schools are (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools including foreign schools accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. (4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above.
