Incumbent serves as a Journeyman Electrician in the Pentagon O&M Electric Shop under the Pentagon Building Management Office (PBMO), within the Federal Facilities Division (FFD), Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). Incumbent performs electrical maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and modifying of new and existing electrical systems, operating equipment, facilities, fixtures, and electrical devices throughout the Pentagon Building. Completed work and projects are spot checks to assure that all work is done in a timely manner, and meets or exceeds the National Electrical Code and other Commonwealth and local codes.

Major Duties:
Incumbent plans and lays out work from blue prints, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturers instructions, or other specifications, and oral or written instructions. Performs preventative maintenance on a variety of electrical equipment incidental to commercial Federal buildings. Locates electrical shorts, diagnoses trouble, and make necessary repairs on a variety of electrical equipment such as fan motors from 3 hp to 30 hp, transformers, pumps, air-conditioning and heating equipment, fluorescent, incandescent, direct and indirect lighting equipment, fluorescent dimming systems and controls, 277 volt parking lot lights, emergency warning systems, timing and recording devices, distribution panels, and connections for computer equipment, machines and office appliances.
As an Electrician, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Performs complete electrical or rewiring jobs for segments buildings and structures. Installs, repairs and maintains switch and outlet boxes.
Connects complete electrical circuits to the power source and test operation of switches and equipment.
Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on 22 electric vaults including low voltage draw out circuit breakers, metering equipment and fused disconnects. This involves working around very high voltages. Must have knowledge of the configuration, operation, and installation of a variety of electrical systems, controls, and electric equipment, and have the ability to determine the proper sizes, type and arrangements necessary to install wiring, conduit, fixtures, lighting ballast, transformers and other electrical devices to insure proper and safe operation of electrical systems.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Per the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, the applicant's experience, education, and training must show enough of the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) listed to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience are: Read and interpret blueprints, building plans, wire diagrams, electrical drawing, experience with various types of electrical supplies and equipment and have the ability to assemble, layout, or install them in ways to insure proper and safe operations.
Federal Wage System (FWS) positions require the use of a Screen-Out Element (SOE). Points awarded for this element will range from 0 to 4, with 4 being the highest. Points will be based on experience and training which are documented by your responses to the questionnaire. All applicants must receive a score of 2.0 or above on the SOE and an average of 2.0 on all the job elements in order to be considered minimally qualified for the position(s) to be filled. The raw scores that meet these criteria are then translated to a scale (70 to 100). It is at this point (Round 2) that your resume is used to confirm your qualifications.
