The VA Medical Center, Marion, IL is seeking a Full time Physician to serve as Chief, Health Informatics Officer. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Provides oversight and direction regarding issues that relate to clinical informatics across the facility. Maintains Clinical Patient Record System (CPRS) applications that have direct patient care interfaces (consults, orders, templates, clinical reminders, etc.). Reviews every proposal for informatics technology acquisition that will impact delivery of clinical care and consults with appropriate services to ensure that all possible uses of a given technology are considered and that new informatics acquisitions are in line with the facility strategic plan; supervises and provides direction and guidance to the Clinical Application Coordinators, ADPAC, BCMA coordinator, Pharmacy Informaticist and any other clinical informatics staff required to complete the mission of the organization; identifies appropriate menu access for clinical informatics; works with facility leadership to help re-engineer processes using clinical informatics; works to improve how the facility uses clinical informatics to deliver care and guides staff in taking advantage of innovations in clinical informatics technology

This is a full time position.
Appointment is contingent upon applicant meeting qualifications and the determination of the Professional Standards Board.
Salary is determined by the Physician's Compensation Panel.
Travel and Relocation Expenses have been authorized. Recruitment or Relocation Incentive may be authorized.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
All individuals applying under this announcement must meet basic qualification standards for appointment as contained in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, dated April 15, 2002. This standard is available in the Human Resources Liaison Office for review.
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
The physician must provide complete credentialing and privileges information in a timely, expeditious way to the VA Network Credentialing Office. Employment is contingent on the ability of the physician to be credentialed by the VA Network Credentialing Office.
Citizenship: Must be a United States Citizen (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with current regulations).
License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Physical Requirements: Must meet physical requirements as required by VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Preferred Qualifications: Board Certification is strongly desired.
