The Transplant Referral Coordinator's dutes are to review and integrate into practice the current professional literature in the field of transplant; examine current transplant-related research; share knowledge through mentoring/precepting of multidisciplinary staff members; maintain the highest standards of professional conduct; assure open and clear communication with patients, families and health care team members without bias or discrimination; provide presentations and information appropriate to the needs of transplant professionals and the public; coordinate transplant support group monthly meetings; plan, conduct and evaluate educational activities for patients, families/legal guardians; review, evaluate and revise educational materials and programs for transplant-related practice (evidence-based practice); manage and monitor recipient consults and transplant outcomes to meet performance standards required by OPTN/UNOS, CMS, employer and personal expectations; assure informed consent for live donation and transplantation; assure access for patients to treatment alternatives; and assure that quality and performance improvement standards are developed, implemented and maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1. Citizen of the United States (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
2. Bachelor's Degree from a PA training program which is certified by the American Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); OR (2) Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA, and Bachelor's Degree in a health care occupation or health-related science; OR graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration that is certified by the ARC-PA, AND a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health car experience must total at least 5 years.
3. Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
4. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
