DUTIES:(The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position)
This position is established in a Geographic Area Coordination Center and serves as an Operations Coordinator to provide assistance in planning for and mobilizing resources to incidents threatening life, property, and natural resources. Assists with the overall management and execution of activities of the Operations Section of the GACC. This involves the intra- and inter-geographical area movement of aircraft, personnel and equipment. Sets priorities and directs the movement of personnel, equipment, supplies, and aircraft to respond to wildland fires. Provides information to local governments and media outlets regarding the status of wildland fires and the danger they pose, air quality affects, and transportation disruptions. Coordinates the availability and geographical placement of shared resources (e.g. air tankers, lead planes, aerial delivered firefighters (smokejumpers and rappellers), and aerial delivered firefighter aircraft) within the Geographic Area.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
I have 90 days on-the-line wildland firefighting experience gained through containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire. I have documented this experience with specific dates in the Work Experience, Additional Information portion of my application, or Resume.
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 10: Qualifying experience for the GS-10 level includes one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-9. Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: The experience requirements for the GS-10 level may be met by completion of two and one-half years of graduate level education (45 semestr/67 quarter hours) in a position-related field of forestry or natural resources management.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
Grade 11: Qualifying experience for the GS-11 level includes one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-10. Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
For the GS-10 position, in addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have had one (1) year of specialized experience at least equivalent to GS-09 in assisting in the development and maintenance of a variety of fire management guides, plans or handbooks. Performing dispatch duties, coordinated ground and air transportation and determined the nature of the resources needed including personnel, equipment, and services required to respond to emergency situations. Directing the movement of personnel, equipment, supplies, and aircraft to respond to wildland fires. Gathering and compiling factual information to assess the current and planned status of fire fighting resources.
For the GS-11 position, in addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have had one (1) year of specialized experience at least equivalent to GS-10 in assisting higher level manager in prioritizing incidents based upon threats to communities or natural resource values. Assisting in the development and maintenance of a variety of fire management guides, plans or handbooks. Gathering and compiling factual information to assess the current and planned status of fire fighting resources. Directing the movement of personnel, equipment, supplies, and aircraft to respond to wildland fires.

FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a secondary firefighter position under 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS). At least 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required. There is no age limit for entry into secondary positions. Firefighter retirement coverage of the incumbent depends upon his or her individual work history.
As a condition of employment, all male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must have registered for the selective service. If selected for this position, the applicant must sign a statement certifying his registration, or the applicant must demonstrate exempt status under the Selective Service Law.
