The physician evaluates patients in the Urology clinic, performs clinic procedures and major procedures in the main operating room.  The incumbent provides pre-operative evaluation of each patient scheduled for elective or emergency surgery. He/she is responsible for providing the patient with the risks, benefits, and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures. The physician also evaluates the patient in the Operating Room to assess any changes in the physical status, lab values and vital signs prior to performing the surgery. The incumbent is responsible for regular postoperative follow-up, patient teaching, and care upon discharge.  All documentation is entered into the electronic medical record.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizenship.  Citizen of the United States. 

English Proficiency.  Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Education.  Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. 

Licensure.  Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. 

First-Year Residency (Internship).  Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. 

Senior Grade.  Meet the requirements for Intermediate grade and have demonstrated recognized professional attainment such as:



     (1)  Past or present faculty appointment in an approved medical school or



     (2)  Completion of an accredited residency in the specialty area to which the individual is being assigned or in a related area, or



     (3)  Current eligibility to sit for the board certification examination in the specialty area to which the individual is being assigned or in a related area, or



     (4)  Comparable achievements in clinical, educational, administrative or research activities.

BOARD ELIGIBLE OR BOARD CERTIFIED HIGHLY PREFERRED.



You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in Physician for this position. In some cases, these may be substituted for experience and education.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
