ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATIONS:Positions will be filled at the following locations as vacancies occur. There MAY NOT be immediate vacancies at all locations. HOSPITALS: Pine Ridge Service Unit, Pine Ridge, South Dakota "HEALTH CENTERS" Kyle and Wanblee, South Dakota. Positions may also be filled at other Indian Health Service locations including the Aberdeen Area Office and Tribal Organizations as vacancies occur or are established in the area.

Performs specialized, professional nursing duties as in the case of critically ill, severely injured and/or traumatized emergency patients.
Assesses all patients presented for emergency care and triages based on history, physical assessments and chief complain.
Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS),Trauma-Neuro Critical Care (TNCC), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) protocols.
Administers therapeutic measures. Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic, monitoring data, and other relevant to the patients care.
In emergency situations, when a physician is not immediately available, initiates appropriate actions or procedures.
Participates fully in nursing quality assurance activities and established Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)/Accreditation Associate for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) criteria for emergency care.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: The following Selective Placement factor has been determined to be essential for the position. Candidate must show possession of this factor in order to be minimally qualified:
NURSE: Must possess and maintain a current, active, and unrestricted Nursing license in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
The following shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for positions covered by the standard.
GS-9: 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree OR 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level.
GS-10: 2 1/2 years of progressively higher level graduate education OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.
Evaluation of Experience: Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. At GS-9 and above, many positions require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Specialized experience is defined as work involving experience that equipped the applicant with the professional knowledge of nursing process and emergency health care, including principles, standards, practices and procedures, e.g. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/ Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), of nursing care required to meet the nursing needs of the patients of all ages with a wide variety of acute and chronic health needs; developing a plan of care to meet emergent and non-emergent health needs of patients to the emergency room; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: Federal status applicants must have completed at least 52 weeks of service in a position no more than one grade lower than the position to be filled. If selected under the Excepted Service Examining Plan, individuals may be appointed without regard to time-in-grade requirements.
Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
