Position Status: This announcement may be used to fill temporary full-time, part-time or intermittent positions. Indicate on your resume your availability for any of these appointments.
About the Position: The Institute offers foreign language instruction in more than two dozen languages to approximately 3,500 students on a schedule that extends throughout the year.
Courses are taught six hours per day, five days a week, with the exception of federal holidays and training holidays determined by the garrison. Teachers work on teaching teams consisting of six members and teach up to 30 students in groups of 10. The duration of courses range between 25 and 63 weeks, depending on the difficulty of the language.
The Institute currently awards an Associate of Arts degree in foreign language to students who successfully complete the course. The DLIFLC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community & Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

DLIFLC offers an intensive student-centered environment with diverse opportunities for faculty development. Teachers will teach listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, as well as geopolitical, economic and social issues, in an immersion-proficiency based environment. A typical eight-hour day also includes teaching four to six hours and other duties include class preparation, adapting teaching materials, checking homework, administering and grading tests. Work schedule is a 40-hour workweek, Monday-Friday 7:45am to 4:45pm. Faculty members are expected to stay abreast of current foreign language teaching theories and methods. Faculty and staff assigned to any area of the Continuing Education (CE) School are required to travel frequently to various locations for unknown durations. Travel is a critical aspect of the job.

Essay topic is how your background, education and training have prepared you to be a foreign language teacher.NOTE:Typed essays are NOT acceptable. The essay is used to evaluate the language writing proficiency.

POSITIONS WILL BE FILLED AT ONE OF SIX RANKS: Assistant Instructor, Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.
Applicants will be referred for all ranks in which they qualify based on education and experience. Qualifications for each rank may be found at https://cpolrhp.cpol.army.mil/west/employment/employment.htm under Language Teaching Positions under FPS at DLI.
If selected, applicant must pass a language proficiency test.
LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 and the minimum proficiency for Russian is a Level 3 in speaking and writing as defined in the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level descriptions, which are posted in the DLI catalog at http://www.dlielc.org/testing/opi_roundtable.html
If selected for an Intermediate or Advanced Language course, the required proficiency level is 4.
Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicant from further consideration. An applicant who has failed a language test may reactivate their resume after 6 months. Retesting is allowed only once.
