About the Position: Must have a Maryland journeyman or master license for operating AC units. For operation of boilers must have a State of Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineers License, a boiler water treatment course, and Nitrogen oxide training.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government vehicle operator license.
Will operate a government vehicle that does not exceed the 3/4 ton weight range.

    Employee works with a wide variety of commercial and industrial systems up to and including those which require that the employee troubleshoots, installs, repairs, and modifies special purpose air conditioning, refrigeration, or climate regulation systems that are frequently modified and used to provide specific, critical conditions. Modifies, alters, and repairs unusually complex or unique air conditioning and refrigeration systems used to support research, development, test, evaluation, experiments, or comparable special purposes. Modifies, alters, and substitutes components and elements of the system in order to meet specific pressure-temperature or climate characteristics. Trains inexperienced personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance. May be required to prepare instructional material and conduct instruction of operators. Possesses good verbal and instructional skills.

  • Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of a Heating & A/C Equipment Mechanic. Applicants must show competence in the following knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the position: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen-out Element) 2. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation and repair, etc. 3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications (includes blueprint reading) 5. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment 6. Knowledge of materials 7. Troubleshooting. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing. Frequently carries and setup parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Uses hoist, holders, and pulleys when working on large equipment. Frequently performs work assignments while on al ladder, scaffold, and or platforms in hard to reach places. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors and outdoors, frequently in cramped and awkward positions. May be exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Frequently stands on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, exhaust, fumes, smoke, ash, refrigerant gases, and burns from scalding water and contact with heated parts of the system. Subject to injuries from falls when working on roofs and scaffolding and out of buckets of lifts vehicles. May be subject to cuts, bruises, electrical shock, and other injuries when removing and installing parts. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses protective clothing and equipment such as goggles, respirators, heavy aprons, hardhats, safety shoes and asbestos gloves. Subject to emergency callback work after normal duty hours and scheduled overtime.
  • Experience and training that furnish the knowledges, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade. Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment. Ability to read, understand, and apply instruction and other materials related to the job.
