WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED:
This is part of the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP). It is open to students only, enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking status taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocation course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school.
JOB SUMMARY:
THIS IS A TEMPORARY SUMMER HIRE POSITION THAT IS NOT TO EXCEED 30 SEPT 2011.
Located at Tyndall Air Force Base, FL.
Actual length of employment is contingent upon budget, workload, mission, and weather.
Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid.
The FIRST CUT OFF DATE for this announcement will be 1 April 2011; subsequent cutoff dates will be every 2 weeks thereafter until all positions are filled.

Uses varied functions of multiple office automation software to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc. Prepares a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources and reviews and finalizes documents prepared by others. Reviews and processes incoming and outgoing correspondence, materials, publications, regulations, and directives. Receives and directs telephone calls or visitors. Establishes, updates, and maintains office records of various types that may be needed or will assist in the efficient
operation of the office.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Detail qualification requirements are outlined in OPM Qualification Standard Operating Manual for One-Grade Interval Technical and Medical Support Positions.
To qualify for a GS-03, you must have:
6 months of general experience
OR
One year above high school
OR
Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. The combinations described below are those most typical for these positions, i.e., for grades GS-3 through GS-5. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (When crediting education, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.)
For GS-3 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the 6 months' experience required for GS-3; then deter-mine the applicant's education as a percentage of the l year of education that meets the requirements for GS-3. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-3.
General experience is defined as; 1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or 2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for this positions must show possession of the following skill, as appropriate.
40 words per minute typing speed
Applicants may meet this requirement by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
1. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
2. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports.
3. Knowledge of rules, procedures, or operations applied to clerical assignment to perform the routine, procedural work of the office, such as preparing and editing documents, maintaining files/records, making and preparing travel arrangements, screening telephone calls and visitors, and processing mail.
4. Knowledge of filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of the materials being processed.
5. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required.
6. Ability to locate, assemble, and compose routine, non technical information for recurring reports and inquiries.
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
8. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
