Appointment: May be filled as permanent, term or time-limited, or temporary appointments.  Positions are filled as vacancies occur.

Incumbent monitors health status to identify community health problems, and diagnoses and investigates health problems and health hazards.  Further, the incumbent:

  • Conducts and participates in community assessment to develop a plan of action.
  • Conducts community analysis in partnership with community representatives, and in collaboration with other public health or health care professionals.
  • Collects data in a systematic and organized manner, i.e., demographic, immunizations, etc; analyzing the collected data.
  • Teaches and supervises patients and families in techniques of position health measures, accenting and adjusting to the implications and responsibilities of medical care, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Designs interventions to mobilize resources for action.
  • Nursing care includes, assessing patients, developing plan of care, consulting with healthcare team members as appropriate.  Includes evaluating and reassessing patient needs.
  • Participates in continuous evaluation of program and services, and performance improvement; develops standard of care.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

All applicants must meet the qualification requirements of this position by the closing date of the job announcement: Saturday, December 31, 2011. 

You must meet all of the BASIC REQUIREMENTS listed below:

1.   A minimum of a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.

2.   An active, unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States.

In addition to the above you must meet the following minimum requirements for the grade level you wish to be considered for:

GS-7:   Completion of baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing OR one (1) full year of graduate education OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.

GS-9:   2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree or equivalent degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level.

GS-11:  Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D or equivalent) or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level.

Specialized Experience: Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
