This position is located in the Police Service of the Department of Veterans Affairs Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics (SORCC). Incumbent responsible for the technical management of Police Dispatch. Ensures all communications/security and related electronic equipment is operative on a daily basis. Operates a variety of communication and security equipment such as computers and dispatch radios. Functions as the department resource person in this area. Incumbent is the evening and night shift dispatcher responsible for all dispatch responsibilities. Assists evening and night shift police officers with calls, and assignments including searches for missing patients. Performs other related administrative duties as needed and assigned. Non recurring audits, surveys and studies may also be assigned as needed.

This position requires working irregular tours of duty, which will include evenings, night shift, weekends, holidays and weekend day shift.

Incumbent will be required to work rotating shifts, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, with rotating days off.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.

Ability to effectively communicate in English, both spoken and written, is re­quired.

For GS-5 level: 1 year of *specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 in the Federal Service OR successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree in any field.

*Specialized experience is experience that provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.Specialized experience for this position is defined as knowledge of security and law enforcement programs and services; ability to research, analyze and intercept complex information, and independently determine the most successful and appropriate course of action to address and resolve the matter ensuring that actions are within guidelines and regulations; knowledge of Police Service dispatch communications equipment such as computers, surveillance & radio equipment and dispatch procedures in order to perform as a shift dispatcher; and the ability to exercise a high degree of communication with patients, visitors, other law enforcement agencies and employees in person and on the phone.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

  1. Knowledge of security and law enforcement services and programs.

  1. Ability to effectively manage the administrative work of an office including organizing office functions, arranging and establishing work schedules, developing training plans, and filing and organization of records.
