About the Position: The initial cut-off date will be used to begin applicant consideration. Applications received after the cut-off-date will be considered if need.

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct visual, chemical, photographic, and other scientific and instrumental examinations, as needed, of complex submissions of physical evidence and material to form an opinion regarding identification of latent prints and/or impressions. The evidentiary materials are irreplaceable physical evidence and material submitted for intelligence and operational exploitation in support of National Defense and in connection with criminal activity.


Physical exam required. Incumbent must meet DoD/DA physical screening requirements for deployment to OCONUS locations established by the CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) for OCONUS deployment, to include meeting the deployment requirements for physical and dental deployment readiness.

    The Selectee duties are receives material and compares latent prints found or developed to any record prints or standards submitted or retrieved from data bases to make identifications and eliminations of suspects, victims, and persons associated with criminal investigations. Receives, inventories, and maintains the integrity of all submitted evidence. Uses chemical, physical, and instrumental techniques in the processing of physical evidence. Renders oral and written reports of findings and opinions based in technical knowledge developed during the examination and analysis of evidence. Prepares or coordinates the preparation of photographic reproductions of latent prints to be used as exhibits in courts of law. Participates in various quality assurance activities such as standards maintenance, instrument maintenance and calibration, proficiency testing, continuing education programs and proficiency testing programs.

  • Specialized Experience: The qualified candidates for this job must show in their resume one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 grade level in the Federal civilian service Performing difficult latent fingerprint examinations, preparing written laboratory reports based on examinations, and testifying as an expert witness in the area of latent fingerprint examinations. Comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the principles, concepts, methodologies and techniques of forensic latent print examination and skill to apply this knowledge to a variety of difficult and complex work cases and assignments. Extensive knowledge of the techniques and procedures in the examination and analysis of latent print evidence. Thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, techniques and processes in latent print examination gained through education, career training and experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Incumbent is required to lift boxes of evidence that weights up to 70 pounds to working heights of 48 inches. Must participate in DNA profiling database within the USACIL. Position is subject to Lautenberg/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor amendments. May be required to carry firearm. Job will require shift work with normal 8-hour shifts but may require working extended 12-hour shift, 7 days a week. These positions require extended temporary duty travel (TDY) and/or deployment to contingency and/or humanitarian relief areas, worldwide, in support of the mission of the USACIL. Emergency Essential Position. Applicants must possess a valid motor vehicle operator?s license at the time of appointment, must maintain license while employed in the position and will be required to operate motor vehicle in accordance with applicable OPM regulations and related requirements of Department of the Army.
