About the Position: Work is performed under the technical and administrative control of the Chief of Operations Division. Follows the general instructions that may be issued at the beginning of the assignment by supervisor and specific instructions on pick-up and destination are relayed by the dispatcher at the time the vehicle is dispatched. When assigned to the Bus Section, follows the general instructions that may be issued at the beginning of the assignment by a bus supervisor and specific instruction on the schedule routes are relayed by the dispatcher at the time the vehicle is dispatched. Responsible for knowing acceptable alternative routes for use in emergency situations which will legally accommodate the size and length of the vehicle being driven. Assists handicapped passengers when entering and leaving vehicles only if assistance is required. Checks for authorizations of passengers and answers any questions of passengers on authorizations, times and route schedules and destinations.

    You will provide official motor transportation for high-ranking civilians and military. You will operate U.S. Government leased passenger sedans, minivans, carryalls, passenger buses or similar vehicles, and provide special transportation for the Medal of Honor ceremonies within the National Capital Region. You will follow instructions received from a supervisor and receive the vehicle report from the dispatcher with pick-up and destination before each assignment, proceeding to/from the destination route, based on traffic/weather in an expeditious manner. You will utilize anti-terrorist driving techniques; utilize proper communication procedures to transmit information on traffic conditions, changes in destination, assignment, time schedules, or emergency messages. You will use the Motor Equipment Utilization Record, verify authorization signature, vehicle registration number, check authorized passes on all passengers, military personnel and perform operator's maintenance on vehicles.

  • (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT): Your resume must indicate your overall knowledge, experience, and training to independently perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. As a Motor Vehicle Operator you must be knowledgeable of State and local safety rules, DOD and DA regulations and standard operating procedures for moving vehicles; Skilled in Anti-terrorist driving techniques and recognizing potential hazardous conditions and in-route changes to avoid potential problems; Able to adapt to the hazardous situations by utilizing evade and escape tactics; Knowledgeable of military protocol procedures, etiquette, and social customs concerning formal courtesies and ceremonies; Skilled in maintaining a high degree of trustworthiness, dependability, discretion, patience and tact in contacts with customers; Knowledgeable of applicable directives and procedures necessary to safeguard classified information. Additionally your resume must demonstrate: Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation); Ability to drive safely; Reliability and Dependability as a Motor Vehicle Operator.

    SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Must possess a validate state motor vehicle drivers license; and you must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must be able to obtain and maintain an equivalent US Government motor vehicle operator license. Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light to moderate physical effort is required in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads due to the number of passengers. Moderate physical effort may be required in the handling of objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional handling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates vehicles day or night in all types of traffic and weather conditions for all shifts. Operator is subject to cuts, bruises, and other injuries as a result of accident while driving vehicles. Must agree to work any of three shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) with proper notification. If required, must agree to wear government provided uniform while operating vehicles. If required to work overtime, must agree to do so and will be compensated at the authorized overtime rate.

    POSITION IS DESIGNATED EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL. The person selected for this position must sign a statement of understanding and an agreement to continue to perform the duties of this position in the event of a crisis until relieved by proper authority.
