The Providence VA Medical Center provides high quality comprehensive outpatient   and inpatient healthcare to veterans residing in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Each veteran patient is assured personalized care by a team of health care providers.

The Registered Nurse Special Projects Coordinator executes position responsibilities that demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care through the development and implementation of special projects.  The Special Projects Coordinator is an EXPERT nurse, “with an enormous background of experience, who now has an intuitive grasp of each situation and zeros in on the accurate region of the problem without wasteful consideration of a large range of unfruitful, alternative diagnoses and solutionsâ€� (Benner).  The Special Projects Coordinator demonstrates performance and  leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of patients.  He/She is responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level.  The Special Projects Coordinator demonstrates (a) Leading and organizing delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning; (b) Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes, (c) Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities, (d) Systematically evaluating current practice, and formulating outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise, (e) Guiding, developing, and supporting staff from a leadership perspective, and (f) Using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Graduate of a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) accredited school of nursing. Baccalaureate degree in nursing with approximately two to three years of successful nursing practice; or a master's degree in nursing and approximately one to two years of successful nursing practice; or a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field. The candidate must have an active, current, full and unrestricted professional nurse registration.  A minimum of 2-3 years of successful experience as an acute care nurse preferred.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary groups to identify, analyze and resolve problems and improve patient care.  The incumbent possess the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain confidentiality of written, electronic and verbal patient/employee information. Prior experience in utilizing nursing research and literature in practice preferred.
