JOB SUMMARY:
Incumbent performs housekeeping aide duties in patient, administrative, clinical and public areas, depending upon the needs of the Medical Center. Incumbent removes trash, strips and refinishes floors, dust mops, damp mops and wet mops floors. Cleans restrooms, bath and shower rooms, patient rooms, linen and utility rooms and various other public areas. Washes walls, cleans windows, screens, ledges, stairwells, elevators, offices, day rooms, furniture, fans, air conditioning ducts, and light fixtures. Performs terminal cleaning of patient rooms, strip floors using power scrubber and vacuums, cleaning and maintaining these machines after each use. Moves heavy office equipment/furniture at times.
Albuquerque is a major metropolitan area with a population exceeding 600,000. It has mild winters and pleasant summers. Outdoor activities include hiking, skiing, mountain climbing, fishing, hunting, biking, year round golf and tennis. NMVAHCS is located on a 100 acre campus; is a 217 bed medical, surgical, psychiatric and research and academic facility including 125 bed Behavioral Health Care Line, a Spinal Cord Injury Center and Geriatric and expanded Care Unit; Integrated outpatient and inpatient services provided; full range of primary care, tertiary care referral services; primary referral site for VISN 18, with significant clinical programs in cardiology, surgery, gastroenterology, inpatient psychiatry, lithotripsy and others; affiliated with UNM; VA/DOD joint ventures with KAFB ambulatory care facility; 11 Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Office of Personnel Management Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupation System, Series 3566.
Incumbent must do a great deal of walking, standing, bending, and climbing of stairs. Usually works in a well lighted, well heated building but at times may be exposed to the elements.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation.
