JOB SUMMARY:Find Solutions to Agricultural Problems that Affect Americans Every Day, From Field to Table

The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organization.  ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority effecting American agriculture.

The incumbent will develop and evaluate a sequentially linked remote sensing-based energy balance ET algorithms (EB-ET) - Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) - ground water model (MODFLOW) model system.  The incumbent will also join in research team efforts at El Reno and Bushland to evaluate impacts of 1) land use, management, and agricultural conservation on groundwater recharge and quality in the Fort Cobb Reservoir Watershed in Oklahoma, and 2) agricultural management and policy scenarios on groundwater resources in the Rush Springs and Ogallala aquifers.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

This position requires a recent Ph.D in professional engineering  or  physical or natural science or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.  -  Skill in watershed modeling and programming is required.  -  Modeling experience in MODFLOW and programming in Fortran are desirable.  -  Knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of hydrology soil physics, and geology are desirable.
