DUTIES:(The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position)
This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center and is established for the purpose of providing support and assistance in the areas of physical education and recreation. The incumbent prepares facilities and staff for a range of activities, including recreational activities that take place away from the Job Corps Center. Insures visiting performers are provided the information and services they require. Provides recreational activity guidance to participants with various skill levels and backgrounds. Implements activities to allow the fullest participation of students. Maintains facilities and equipment associated with recreation and physical fitness activities. Tests equipment for safe operation. Instructs participants of standardized rules and demonstrates equipment use. Monitors and insures compliance with and enforcement of all safety rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 04: Qualifying experience for the GS-4 level includes six months of experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or that provided familiarity with the subject matter of the occupation AND six months of specialized experience directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs; teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program; aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities; summer aid in a State or national park; sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop; aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property; and aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Experience requirements may be met by successful completion of two academic years of post high school education which included at least 12 semester/18 quarter hours in courses related to recreation (e.g., basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, arts and crafts, etc.).
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
Grade 05: Qualifying experience for the GS-5 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to GS-4 which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. OTHER INFORMATION:
Applicants MUST possess at the time of submitting their application, the required Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement. The CDL and endorsement must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment. As part of the CDL requirement, all incumbents of this position must participate in random alcohol and drug testing. This position also requires the incumbent to obtain a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification within 90 days of appointment and must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment.

BASIS OF RATING: The category rating procedure is used to rank and select eligible candidates.
