DUTIES:(The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position)
This position is established on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center to provide night shift supervision of students. The incumbent works as a team member, offering instruction and guidance on positive social skills. Also provides assistance to the night shift supervisor for all emergencies that may arise during the midnight tour. Works with other staff to provide personalized learning opportunities for students that emphasize employability skills. Assists to insure that an attractive physical and social enviornment is appropriate for students at varying levels of maturity with varying needs. Periodically checks all Center buildings, including dormitories, to insure security and safety for all students. Conducts student accountability checks and provides accurate reporting. Oversees the early morning activities of students, instructing in the work details of keeping their dormitory clean, orderly, and safe. Maintains necessary logs and reports.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 04: Qualifying experience for the GS-4 level includes six months experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or that provided familiarity with the subject matter of the occupation AND six months specialized experience directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: group leader in community or residential recreation program; counselor in a youth summer camp; instructor in a training program for the development of job skills; work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew; group activities leader in the Armed Services; unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group or a boarding school or other residential facility; aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel, employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development; aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities; or aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Experience requirements may be met by successful completion of two academic years of post high school education that included at least 12 semester/18 quarter hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses directly related to the position being filled.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
Grade 05: Qualifying experience for the GS-5 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to GS-4 that is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Applicants MUST possess at the time of submitting their application, the required Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement. The CDL and endorsement must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment.
