JOB SUMMARY:The incumbent serves as a Biomedical Engineering Technician in the Facilities Management Service at The Villages Outpatient Clinic.  The Biomedical Engineering Technician's duties include: providing comprehensive technical support of Medical and Laboratory systems and other general clinical instrumentation.

The incumbent serves as a Biomedical Engineering Technician in the Facilities Management Service at The Villages Outpatient Clinic.  The Biomedical Engineering Technician's duties include: providing comprehensive technical support of Medical and Laboratory systems and other general clinical instrumentation; maintaining, repairing, calibrating, installing, modifying, designing, inspecting, evaluating, and training users; analyzing, developing, planning, certifying, and correcting system malfunctions on complex microprocessor based systems that have vitally interrelated and sometimes dispersed subsystems; planning and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to ensure this equipment is operating properly; keeping a maintenance record of repair and testing of assigned medical equipment to enable patters to be seen for any device and to perform quality assurance studies.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Possess one full year of specialized experience to qualify at the GS-10 level.  Examples of specialized experience may include: providing technical and management support to the Biomedical Engineer; performing duties of broad scope and complexity to install, repair, test, calibrate, adjust, overhaul, and correct system malfunctions with a variety of medical, surgical, radiology, laboratory, automated data processing, data communications, and other equipment ranging from simple gas flow meters to complex medical systems.  If using education to qualify, provide copies of college transcripts.

1.        Knowledge of and has vast experience in the techniques, theories, and characteristics of electronics and electricity in conjunction with physics, chemistry, physiology, optics, pneumatics, mechanics, and hospital procedures. Possesses extensive knowledge of biomedical instrumentation and electronic test equipment used to repair and maintain medical Equipment. (Explain your experience and knowledge)





  1. Knowledge of capabilities, limitations, operation, design features and use of a variety of  Biomedical Systems including Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Dental, Laboratory, Specialty Clinics, Ophthalmology, and Cardiac Monitoring. (Explain your experience and knowledge)

  2. Knowledge of networking systems and database servers including Muse, Radiology and Cardiology PACS systems, Knowledge of HL 7, the Dicom Standard and Vista imaging.  (Explain your abilities)

  3. The ability to conduct preventative maintenance and manage a safety program in accordance with the facilities Medical Equipment Management Program.  (Explain your experience and knowledge).
