As an electrician at a navigational lock and dam facility, you will perform the following duties:

  • Operate and maintain all electrical components, panels and circuitry at the lock and dam facility as well as associated office buildings and public use areas. Equipment varies in voltage (120, 240, 480v) and phases.
  • Operate and maintain sewage and water systems.
  • Perform installations of new equipment, diagnostic maintenance inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, parts replacement, and, overhaul lock operating systems, machinery, and related equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust, lubricate, test, install, calibrate, and perform major and minor repairs at regularly scheduled intervals.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and/or disassemble electric, diesel, and gasoline engines such as large mobile cranes, bulkhead hoists, generators, pumps, and compressors.
  • Operate  traveling bulkhead hoist and/or mobile crane.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect your ability to do the work of an Electrician, WY-2805-10, without more than normal supervision (screen-out element).  Applicants must meet this screen out element to be considered further.  To meet  this screen out element, applicants should document experience in the following:  

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment.
  • Theory and instruments (electrical, electronic) used in shop and trade practice.
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Ability to use electrical drawings.
  • Ability to use and maintain hand tools (electrical work).
  • Trouble shooting (electrical).

Physical Effort:  Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, enclosed switchgear, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders and poles. Machinery on high lift structures is large and requires the skills of a heavy construction mechanic to effect repair or replacement.

Working Conditions:  Work is performed inside and outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high tension electrical equipment, on scaffolds and from slings or floating plant. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level. Incumbent is subject to falls, drowning, injury, or discomfort and when inside, exposure to moving machinery, electrical circuits, and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as life vests, protective ear devices, hard hats, hard toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Salary includes applicable locality pay.



  • This position requires employee to wear uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • Position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • You must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • You must be able to obtain/maintain motor boat operator's license and crane operator license.
  • Must be able to obtain maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • A valid state sewage treatment plant operator’s license may be required.
  • Salary includes applicable locality pay.
  • Permanent Change of Station/Relocation (PCS) expenses may or may not be authorized.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) travel is 10%.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
