The incumbent serves as personal secretary to the Deputy Commandant, Plans, Policy, and Operations (DC, PP&O) Department and is responsible for performing all secretarial duties of the office. Incumbent schedules appointments for the DC, PPO; arranges conferences and briefings which require continuous liaison with Divisions within PPO; arranges meetings with representatives of other agencies; accepts or declines invitations to meetings and functions by telephone or letter; notifies the concerned individuals of any changes or cancellation of the Deputy Commandant's schedule. Incumbent receives and screens all visitors to the Deputy Commandant, and assists them in the proper course of action after ascertaining the nature of the visit. Incumbent responds to inquiries and administrative problems brought to the Deputy Commandant. Incumbent makes arrangements and prepares the required forms for official travel by the Deputy Commandant. Incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating DC, PP&O conferences, meetings and ceremonies to include the Evening Parade hosted by the Deputy Commandant at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. Incumbent types correspondence, as well as messages, speeches, etc., from handwritten notes prepared by the Deputy Commandant and/or Department Principal Staff Officers. Incumbent proofreads, reviews, makes editorial corrections or retypes correspondence of all sorts originating in the Department rather than it being returned for correction or retyping. Incumbent must do research in regard to the preparation of letters, studies, Marine Corps Orders, bulletins, memoranda, etc. Incumbent establishes and maintain current files of official and personal papers and correspondence for the Deputy Commandant. Incumbent will establish sound administrative procedures for the Office of the Deputy Commandant.
